Iconic DJ Fatboy Slim has reportedly been forced to shut down his beachside cafe after inspectors found evidence of rodents in the establishment.

The shop is going to be deeply cleaned as pest droppings were found throughout, along with a litany of other health code violations, according to reports from The Sun.

Last month, the cafe received a stomach-churning one out of five in its hygiene rating, causing officials to investigate.

Big Beach Cafe is located in Hove, Sussex and has belonged to the DJ – real name Norman Cook, 61 – since 2013 when he bought it off Sir Paul McCartney’s ex Heather Mills.

The DJ is often seen at the establishment and has even been known to help out in the kitchen.

The report on the hygiene status of the restaurant states that their management of food safety ‘needs major improvement.’

The Sun also noted that food was kept at 15C, not the required temperature of below 8C, lettuce used in dishes was unwashed, chopping boards were old and over-worn, and a chef was not wearing an apron.

The local council has stated their intention to follow up with the cafe to ensure appropriate measures are taken to remedy the problems.

Brighton and Hove City Council said: ‘In instances where we consider there a risk to customers’ health, we work with the business.’

The news comes amid reports that BBC Radio 2 DJ Zoe Ball is leaning on the DJ – her ex-husband – as she grieves the loss of her mother.

Zoe, 53, was married to Fatboy Slim from 1999 until 2020, and they share a son, Woody (born in 2000), and a daughter, Nelly (born in 2010).

The former couple, who met in Ibiza in 1997, first ended their relationship after he discovered Zoe had cheated with DJ Dan Peppe.

He previously told reporters: ‘I still love her. If you love someone, you’ll forgive them.’

After reconciling, they eventually decided to part ways for good in 2016 – though they now seem to be spending a lot of time together, with Zoe reportedly selling her Sussex mansion to move closer to him in Brighton recently.

While helping Zoe navigate her grief is an admirable use of his time, hopefully, Fatboy Slim can sort out the rodent infestation at his restaurant sooner rather than later.

Metro has contacted Big Beach Cafe and representatives for Fatboy Slim for comment.
