Harvey Weinstein has been indicted for additional sex crime charges, as it’s revealed he ‘almost died’ before his emergency heart surgery on Sunday.

A New York courtroom heard on Thursday that Weinstein was facing three new criminal complaints from 2005, 2006 and 2016.

His lawyer Arthur Aidala told Deadline that they had no further details or specifics about these complaints.

Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg said in court: ‘We informed the defence just prior to being present in court this morning … the grand jury has indicted Mr Weinstein.’

In addition to these three new complaints, it was revealed that the disgraced former Hollywood producer reportedly almost died before his emergency heart surgery that took place over the weekend.

Earlier today, Aidala told Judge Curtis Farber that his client ‘almost died’. It was reported that he had been in a ‘critical condition’ ahead of the surgery and with insiders stating he was in ‘rough shape.’

On Sunday, it was reported that Weinstein was ‘stable’ after the emergency heart surgery to remove fluid from his heart and lungs.

His lawyer, Craig Rothfeld, said in a statement: ‘Mr Weinstein was rushed to Bellevue Hospital last night due to several medical conditions.

‘We can confirm that Mr Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today, however, we cannot comment any further than that.

‘As we have extensively stated before, Mr Weinstein suffers a plethora of significant health issues that need ongoing treatment.’

Juda Engelmayer, a spokesman for Weinstein, also told the PA news agency: ‘His condition is stable. He is resting now.’

He added that he was ‘hopefully out of danger for the moment’.

In February 2020, a verdict saw Weinstein handed a 23-year prison sentence, which was overturned in a shocking development this April by the Court of Appeal.

Weinstein is facing more allegations of rape or sexual misconduct from more than 100 people, with claims dating back to the late 1970s.

Weinstein has denied that he raped or sexually assaulted anyone.

Weinstein is currently recovering at Manhattan Hospital but was imprisoned at New York City’s Rikers Island jail complex.

On Thursday, Judge Curtis Farber granted a defence request to indefinitely move Weinstein to Bellevue Hospital instead of going back to the infirmary ward at Rikers.

A retrial for Weinstein’s case that was overturned in April has been scheduled for November but it is currently unclear if these three additional charges will be brought to this case, or examined separately.

Weinstein co-founded Miramax and was the producer of hit movies including Pulp Fiction, The English Patient, Good Will Hunting, Gangs Of New York and Shakespeare In Love.
